I've got a dovii pair in a 180g tank, ever since i've had them they do nothing but attack the top of the tank, I'm guessing its b/c they see their reflection on the ceiling of the water(kind of looks like a mirror) and my male scrapes his hump on his head up pretty bad, but he keeps doing it over and over......anyway to get them to stop, btw they do it when light is on or off so I really dont know what to do.

they see no reflection on the top of the water...unless you have a mirror there...
do you have anything that might look like food, a stain, a left over piece of something?

I have that same problem except they only do it when I try to open the lid up. It makes feeding time really exciting and wet.
Mine used to do the same thing. Then one day I left the lid open and put my hand above the water like I was going to feed him. He flew out of the water and landed on the next tank top over. I quickly pushed him back into the tank and he hasn't attacked the tank tops since. :nilly:

I might have to try that, I just dont want him to actually get ahold of my hand because ive seen what he has done to other fish and the glass of my tank.

I have a couple of fish that do the same thing.I ended up using a u shaped rubber extrusion around the edges of the glass that the lids sit on.They still do it sometimes but have never hurt themselves since.:)

mmmm algae...

weird thing is, they only attack the middle of the tank, i'm not sure its weird, the female starts it, then he joins in, and they do it for hours.........pretty frustrating.
