Hey Everybody,

I have a few questions on some of my corals, well first off my giant toad stool...the diameter of the top of tis toadstool is about the size of a dinner plate, should I frag a chunk of it off and wait for the original toadstool to recover then sell or should I some how try to be creative with my rock work and leaving a spot for it....very difficult as it is a very beautiful coral.

My elephant ear seems to be having problems, half of it's base is attach to the rock it's always been on and half is just loose... I moved it to an area where the loose part of the base is touching a frag plug in hope of it to attach to it...any body know what could be the problem?

Thanks Everybody

Hmmm... Toadstools can be a space problem for sure... they get rather large... in the big picture, it's up to you haha, if you want to keep a toadstool, then you have to either frag it, or make room, if not then just sell it, frag it, or what ever haha, you could always frag it, keep the smaller piece then sell the larger one to someone, allowing you to keep the stool for longer, without having to repeat the process, but make sure the frag is healthy/growing first haha.

Elephant ear.... not sure... could be self fraging... not sure... also could have just come loose... if thats the case it should reattach unless its unhealthy.

Thanks Kev, I don't know if you ever fragged a toadstool but is thier a certain way to cut to get the disc top? Mine has the disc top and the giant stem I would like to frag it in a way that it will eventually look like what i have.
I've just seen toadstools that grow on rocks in a blanket form on divers den....

Any ideas thanks...for some reason I just don't trust myself in fragging the toadstool I have a feeling I'm gonna make a bad cut and the whole thing is gonna perish...I've seen youtube vids but don't know which is best technique...

thier should be a sticky on fragging corals that would be great

I cant say that I have... Probably best bet is using scissors... then cutting a "slice" off the disk, then cuting the slice into good sized squares (about 1") that should produce a decent looking adult, anything bigger or different shape could result in a lopsided toadstool, but even with a small square it could still happen, such is nature... either way it will take a long time to get big again.

Oh and the ones that look like they grow flat... 2 things... either a different leather technically... or they cut the entire crown of the stem, seen this done before.

Ok cool thanks kev, you think I could just randomly cut one quarter size peice of my toadstool tomorrow? Pretty sure I will have to run carbon in my sump....and I like this idea I found some where, that you use a deli cup and add peice of rubble rock and just lay the coral in thier and it will eventually attach to one of them..

Last but not least, my toad stool will close up the secon I touch it, when it close completely...is that when I cut the quarter size? Lol I don't know why I'm paranoid at my first time "fragging"

Thanks A Million

Yah, the cup method is good from what I hear, (for softies) as superglue is hard to use with softies due to their mucus, and the other methods have mixed results... Though I would recomend only one or two rocks... as you dont want the frag attaching to a bunch of them haha. As for when to cut... hmmm I would suggest getting it to retract its polyps (feelers, tenticels... or what ever you want to call them) by gently rubbing them, then just snip it off with VERY sharp scissors. As if you let it shrink you could end up with a much larger frag then you planned haha.

Thanks Kev, maybe I'll give it a shot today, and I will place one or two larger flat rocks in the cup...thanks for the tip. I will go find some sharp scissors now... thanks a million will update
