Hey all,

A while back I started a thread on what to do with my empty 55 gal with an upcoming order to Jeff Rapps. Well, most said grammodes, which I loved the idea of anyway, so I ended up purchasing 6 (hoping to get a pair). However, I have seen a few folks on here mention that they had a tough time bringing up grammodes. Just wondering what the suspected problems were? Bloat? Aggression? Other? I'd really like to end up with a great looking pair, and would like to have a few extras survive so that I can give them to some other serious hobbyists in the city. Any grammodes tips?

I have not had any problems raising up the lil guys, other then the aggression, I have had a group of 7 and only lost 1 to unknown circumstances....I have spread the wealth to 3 of my buddies in the Northern Chicago Suburbs....

But ask my to keep a freaking clown loach alive? No luck there, it's weird, but Grammys are good here, do not seem to be prone to bloat, at least mine have not, and I have fed the whole spectrum of foods, from Brine to beefheart.........

I know it does not add much to your concern, but I have had luck.....

I had a small one that was all fine until he stopped eating pellets and flakes, and would swallow anything else. Then finally he jumped out.

I have never lost a grammode except when a bag bursted upon shipping some to someone. They are some of the easiest I've had. They generally eat most flake or pellet foods I give them. The really dig bloodworms and mysis shrimp. I got 10 more a few months ago and I still have 10. Some have really outgrown the others but no deaths.

Sweet. Glad to hear that you folks have not had issues. I'd love to get an awesome pair out of this.

I have had no bloat problems either with these fish. I feed them a 55% protein crumble growth food and they have had no bloat. You can't "make" them grow fast though. Even with the high protein food and 2, 50-60% water changes a week they are still small, the biggest being a 3 inch female. I gave up trying to "make" them grow fast so I'm feeding less and I do one big water change a week now. I have them in a 55 gallon tank and the heat is about 82F.
