Hi,

I am having a problem with my fish not eating. I do regular water changes (25%-30% a week) and other parameters are fine. What may be the problem? If it is caused by parasites how 1) can I cure that, 2 2) in case it can not be cured, what is the best way to disinfect the tank? Thanks in advance for you advices.

ok, several questions:

what kind of fish?
what, if any, are the tankmates?
what size tank?
whats the tank temp?
have you added any new fish?
what kind of food are you feeding him?
what do you mean the parameters are fine? what are the levels?

then we can go from there, knowing all that.

answer all VRWC questions and we will be able to give you better advice, but for the meantime check their poo, if its white/clear/stringy then you need to treat with JUNGLE PARASITE CLEAR, i would do all three treatments to make sure everything is killed off and follow instructions completely

Thanks for the replies,

I have a 4 inch oscar, a 1/1/2 inch green terror, and 2 about 3 inch angels in a 55 gallon tank. The temperature is about 80F. I feed them mainly Hikari Gold. The ammonia levels are at 0 and I do frequent water changes. The oscar stopped eating well about one month after I got him. Both he and green terror eat a few pellets and then stop. The angels seem to eat better. All the fish like blood worms and never refuse them. I am afraid that there might be parasites circulating in the water. Their poo is normal.

Thanks

Try not feeding them with bloodworms. I have a feeling that the fishes are training you to feed them what they want. They are very smart and manipulative.

first you said your fish was not eating but your last post you say the oscar and gt eat a few pellets and will eat bloodworms. i think its normal. i have a few fish that only eat a little at a time just because there not big hogs doesnt mean somethings wrong.

:naughty: haha... I agree. These guys are a lot smarter than we sometimes give them credit for and it took me years to figure that out. As a kid, I would feed and feed and feed because of their begging and the way theyd stare at me through the tank!:screwy:

well for an O to not be a pig is REALLY weird lol but yeah it sounds like what ruck fules said, if you will cave and give them the sirloin why would they settle for the ground beef, just stop feeding the bloodworms for awhile and they should come around, also make sure your not overfeeding them as well they should only get a few pellets at each feeding especially with Os so they dont make as much of a mess, you said what your ammonia is but what are your nitrates? with Os especially you will want to make sure the nitrates dont go above 20 or you risk you O getting HITH, and you might already know this but once you little monsters grow a bit they are going to need a bigger tank to have more swimming room and wont start fighting with each other (and with a full grown O and GT in 55g youd have to be doing wc like everyday which would be a PIA lol)

Thanks for your suggestions. I am not overdoing it with the blood worms and I am confident that I have not spoiled them. What worries me is the fact that they are eating so little. I have had oscars and gt in the past and they were voracious eaters. What kind of medicine would you suggest me for parasites. I suspect that they have parasites because I had a FH who six months ago was not eating because of some sort of parasites. I went to a Chinese pet store close to my home and they gave me this powder that took care of the illness, but the store closed about a month ago and I do not know the name of the medicine that they gave me. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ervin
