Okay, so I have learned how to upload pictures and I am slowly adding pictures of my fish and tanks, but I still can't figure out where to go/how to put up a profile/avatar picture. Can you guys help me out?

you're right, if you use the url then you don't have to shrink it. but i've only used custom av's saved onto my computer. when you do that you have to shrink it
i think if you save a picture from the internet to your computer you'd have to shrink it
if not then i don't know what i've been doing wrong. i've always had to shrink them before being able to use a picture saved on my computer. oh well,...........

did it always do that? if it sizes the picture for you, howcome it tells you that it has to be 150x150?
