I am showing my Vieja species grow out photos. The first pair of photos is a V. melanuras, second pair V. bifaciatas, and the third pair V. synspillum. The bifas and melanuras were purchased from Rapp at 2 inch, and both were unremarkable silvery fish that look almost identifcal except for the length of the horizontal stripe. Over the next few months, they went through color transformation and looked more different each day. The bifas outgrew the melanuras rapidly and began to bully the smaller melanuras and I had to separate them. The third pair of photo is a syns I purchased from House of Tropical of Baltimore at 3 inch, already showing some color which intensified over time. I had all three Vieja for about 7 months, and they are now between 4 to 7 inch.

Another pic of the syns and bifas side by side, and the syns by itself with better lighting. Syns and Bifas look more alike than melanuras, even though some say syn and melanuras are one and the same species.

Very nice looking fish. The vieja species is one of my favorites. I've currently got 6 different species, all juvi's right now. They are starting to make some changes. Very incredible fish. Yours are very nice.
