So here comes the first project on my list. This is a rivertank, where the purpose is to make a pretty strong current in the tank. There will be no plants in it.

The tank:

a 12*12*90inch tank, where the fishy part of it, would be the 80 inch in the center.Which would make it ca. 45 gallons. the center will be seperated from the rest with plates, which are filled with small holes.

filtration:
1) a powerhead(750Gallons/hour), where the intake with mechanical filtration are placed in the opposite end of the tank as the powerhead.this is movement only.

2) a filtration setup, where the water are first sendt trhough mechanical filtration(to take all the solid stuff),
then a skimmer(and yes i know it is freshwater, but so far I can see, does a skimmer work in freshwater. And the purpose is to remove more stuff from the water)
Next part would be bioballs and lots of them(with the pupose to break down into Nitrate)
Finally would a algae skrubber, which shall be placed on top of the fishtank.

so more will come in next issue...

sounds solid what kind of fish are goin in it

some cichlids from fastflowing african rivers.I think Bufalloheads are the english name for them

I'd up the GPH as 750 is weak. I have a 1000 on my 140 and it doesn't seem strong enough to flow 80" in the current.

Got a drawing of this?

Skimmer will work in F/W but unless it's overstocks with alot of D.O.C.'s it's not worth the trouble to mod one.

Interesting project

cool project! i think the filteration is a bit overkill though. you could save yourself lots of time money and trouble if the current making poweheads and filteration were all one. and protein skimmers don't work very well at all in fresh water becuase the freshwater bubbles are very hard to make small. by the time you saw it skimming the water would already be of very poor quality.
can't wait to see this thing get started! Good Luck!

So it seems like a skimmer would be misplaced here, I guess that mechanical+biological+algae skrubber should be able to do the trick.Assuming they are of the correct size.

I have decidede for a sump, because of several advantages. More water in system and more space to the fish.Constant waterlevel...
I could have driven the hole thing with a a large canister, but i have a plan with seperating the two filtration systems. In my opinion are cannisters not so great as a biological filter, they are too fast versus the filtervolume. And they are closed.I want the water to go slower through the bioballs and stuff.

And thanks for all your advices and hopefull wishes
