I had posted a thread yesterday asking if anybody could tell me what my 2 new fish were worth. Thank you everybody that helped me out and gave me an idea of their value (again not interested in selling them...I was just curious)
I had several people ask for me to post pictures of them so here they are!

Just a regular jack dempsey. No special morph, still pretty though.

Thats a standard Jack Dempsey.

Here is what an electric blue looks like... There is no mistaking the two.

WOW...that is one beautiful fish! And thank you so much for posting the picture of it. I'm not disappointed at all that it's just a regular Jack Dempsey. I was just going by pictures that I could find online. The pictures that I was finding for the regular Jack Dempseys didn't look at all like mine (eg: Wikipedia) they were much lighter almost cream colored with a lot less blue on them....which is why I was thinking he was an electric blue. Because the pictures I found of them looked alot more like him than the others. Totally doesn't matter though we are thrilled with him regardless of what kind he is :) My children have named him "Rainbow Fish" after a fish in one of their favorite story books (and they named the Oscar "Lava") Am I guessing the sex of it right??? It said online that the males have pointy fins and the girls are rounded....so I was thinking it's a male???
And thanks! :)

It's definitely a Standard Dempsey, as opposed to an Electric Blue... but still a nice looking fish...

When Dempseys are stressed or are the subdominant fish in a tank they tend to lighten up... so your fish looks comfortable and confident. Good signs...

The pointy fin method of sexing Dempseys is very sketchy. I have several specimen right now that prove that method faulty. But, you are correct in the thought your fish is a male. This is by gauging the 'gill plate' as your fish has a very pale gill plate and females tend to have darker gill plates with blue splotches.

Just to mention, BogWoodBruce, I have two male Blue Dempseys that are 9" & 7"... it's true most do not grow to typical Dempsey sizes, but it's not unheard of.
