Everyone loves to say...

"african knife fish (X. nigri) average 8-9 inches and can get 12 inches"

"black ghost knives average 18 inches and can get 24 inches"

How many on here have truly seen a 12 inches X. nigri? I have never seen on in person over 6ish inches, and I have never seen a picture of one on any website that was even 9 inches, let alone 12. Pics please

And where are these BGK's that average 18 inches? I have seen plenty in the 14-15 inches range, and have seen FEW in the 18-20 range (didn't rally just get one and I think miles had a picture of one) but 24 inches? Pics please.

And this is grown in an aquarium, not wild caught at 17 inches and grown to 20. That isn't the same thing at all.

I am assuming, like most max size stuff on the internet, that you can see a number and automatically substract 4 inches because someone was just eyeballing the size. But, I would glad to be proven wrong and see some of these monster african knife and bgk's.

Pics please

yeah i agree on the max sizes being bull crap, thats like saying a humans max size is 107"
The max size of a human is 107" although that is rarely attained. http://www.thehumanmarvels.com/2007/05/tallest-man-robert-wadlow.html

As for the sizes, some may be exaggerated, but it seems that more often, they are underestimated. Ever see the chain pet store signs that say pacus max at 12 or 14"?

lmao one of my lfs actually had a sign that said 10-12" for pacu. i about **** myself i was laughing so hard. i bought my pacu's a month ago and they've gone from 4" to 6" in that same month. so when the clown knife 4" and african brown knife 5" that i bought last night get extra large i will have pics posted of them next to a yard stick... just have to bare with me for a year or two

ill do my best to get my abk as big as i can (12")

I wouldnt say underestimated, I would say they do that on purpose to sell the fish... if they put max size 36"s then no one would buy them or atleast very few.

i know that the tallest dude ever was 8'11''
thats what i meant, he was a freak of nature, i wouldnt give the max size of a human as 107" though

I remember seeing some members who has a 20" BGK and someone with an 8" ABK While it is true that I haven't seen a 12" ABK, I did have a friend with a 9" awhile ago but it died already.

So what was he? In all species, you'll have a few rare individuals that attain a size far greater than most others. Take for instance the Patriarch Cod in MA- 6 ft of fish, hell of a meal

I saw a bgk in chatuchak market in thailand. It ranged about 16-17 inch and it cost 1,500 thai money. I wanted to get that guy the problem is i am having conflicts with the airline i am riding.
