I want to make more Java Ferns. Their leafs are bright green and it grows very well in my tank. How do I get it to propagate?

Thanks!

Heres a pic of the one I want to do this with.

It the plant will develop brown egg like seeds under the leaves and soon you will have many java ferns. Also the java fern will be a lot happier if you tied it onto a rock or piece of driftwood.

Baby plants grow near the tips of the leaves, you will see roots. Also, dont bury it in the substrate. Tie it to wood or rocks, burying the rhizome kills it.

it almost looks like you have a small plant already growing in the middle of the left hand side of the plant. Small plants will just grow on the tip of the leaves and you can pluck them off the leave and replant/tie it on to something else.

that was my thought as well . . .

as an FYI, I have a clump - - or "mat" - - of java fern that is growing in the substrate and doing very well.

I didn't plant it like that, it just worked out that way . . . true, the rhizome is not buried, but java fern certainly can grow - - and thrive - - planted in substrate

I do believe it works better with small gravel than with sand or soil . . .

yup, you already have a sister plant coming out of it. just break it off when you see roots and plant it again. what i usually do is just tie the roots around a small rock and drop it in the tank. the roots will find their way into the substrate, and the rhizome will remain exposed to surrounding water

Pretty sure I spot 2 daughter/sister plants on that leaf... Pluck them carefully & find a rock or log to attach them to. There will be many, many more babies to come, so be ready with the fishing line!

Awesome guys/gals. Thanks again!
