hi all, I've got a heavily planted 90 gallon aquarium with four 6" red belly piranha. I'm currently using http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/209583/product.web. I have a ton of amazon swords, saggitaria, and other tropical plants. Most of the plants are "growing", as in spawning new plants, however they do not seem to be growing upwards. Is this enough lighting for my tank. Dimensions I believe are 48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 25. I've been looking at other fixtures and they seem to cost a fortune.. I've had the tank for about 6 months now. Any ideas? thanks

I bit the bullet and went with aquaticlife t5's. My wife flipped at the price until she saw how great the plants look. I highly redommend this. On my tank I have 3-two bulb fixtures and I am constantly giving plants away.

yeah i'd love to get stuff like that. I'm a college student tho, and funds are somewhat limited. i need a bulb that will work in my current light fixture.

Sorry, misunderstood what you were looking into. You should be fine with anything in the 6000-7000K full daylight range.

i think I have something like that now. I've been looking at everyone's planted tanks on here, they look so lush and green. My plants are reproducing they just arent getting tall and shading my tank, I want the natural amazon look for my Piranha. I just feel like im doing something wrong.

Not an overly good fertilizer IMO. YOu want ferts that are for specific nutirents. All in one ferts really don't give plants what they need.
The light you have looks like a standard fluorescent bulb. Not overly good for really good plant growth. Generally you want high output, T5, or powercompact. LED lights have come a long way as well.
Something like this unit if you're on a budget.

thats my problem though. high output lights are very bright are they not? I have piranha, who hate bright lights. So either its the plants or the piranha, that just doesnt add up to me.
