I'm sure this has been covered before, but I did a search and didn't come up with much. Anyways, I am just curious as to what all your methods are to properly sanitizing a fish tank, rocks, heaters, plants, etc. before introducing fish for the first time to a new aquarium. There are so many different opinions out there that I'm sort of confused as to which one is correct. Some people say just to use hot water, others say warm water and fresh water salt, and some say to use diluted bleach water (not wanting to do this really). What do you all use and what are your recommendations? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I personally use the diluted bleach method. I have never had any problems and works very well for new live plants to avoid added algae problems.

I've also read of people using vinegar, which apart from the ph I can't see how it would harm fish.

bleach, rinse, dechlor.

i would say it depends on where you got your subtrate and decor and how long it been setting

Keep it simple and use hot water. Bleach and fish tanks sound like a bad idea, unless you know what you're doing I suppose.

Which I don't 100% My experience is with reptiles and I use a 1/5 bleach mixture on my bearded dragon's tank, rinse like crazy, let it dry for a couple days (put her in the spare tank), then rinse again before wiping it down and putting her back in. I know fish are A LOT more delicate so I just want to get things done right the first time around.

Well, i just talked to my LFS and the guy says that the best method is deluded bleach, rinse very well, and then dechlor. Gonna give it a shot and if any fish die, I'll tell you all :) Thanks!
