Proper way to treat ick.

1. ...I recognize that I will likely be recommended to do a water change, and water changes are critical for preventing future freshwater health problems.

My fish in a 20 gallon tank had ick a week ago. The white spots are gone now and I will continue to treat with ick meds, temperature and aquarium salt. My question is, when I put the ick medicine in the tank how long do I wait to change water, vacuum the substrate?

Supposedly the disease lives in the gravel , so if that's possible.. remove it ....clean the filter everyday .....warm clean water
