Hi all, I am purchasing a bichir and I can't get a good ID.

What are the criteria for dabola? How many finlets? Head shape? Patterning?

I keep going back and forth between faranah lap and sp dabola. If this isnt a dabola, its one of the nicest laps ive seen. Truly looks like a mix of endli and lapradei patterns.

Wow that is a gorgeous bichir, not sure on diagnostic traits but most dabola I've seen have a darker overall color, he is on lighter colored substrate so that's for sure not a definite

I think if I remember it's about 14-15 finlets. Head of a lapradei. Usually has light banding. That's all I know.

That one looks like a Faranah Lap to me.

Common name is Sp.Faranah, Dabola type, being the pattern and base color showing more of a Dabola look, there are 2 Variations that I have seen, one have the dark greens you would expect from any lapradei and that of these lighter base more spread out patterns. If Hao would be so kind as to post a pic of the 20in+ Dabola I sent him it might help :)
