State of chaos
I read online that there are Bowfin (!) Amia calva in Prospect Park in Brooklyn! I've heard it in other places too. I've never caught an adult Bowfin, although Clove Lake is my major fishing haunt, not Prospect Park. I was there with my friend and I netted a tiny fish under an inch long that was long and had a large eye that was forewards on the head, near the short, rounded snout, ruling out Esox species, and I think it's a Bowfin (juv.)

Oh.
Well, bowfin are sometimes known to be in shallow, heavily planted waters, so that may very well have been a bowfin.

Here's a list of fish from an online source from Prospect Park. There are Anguilla Rostra in there too, but this fish wasn't thin enough to be an eel. It was almost see thru, so ID is tough.
  • Notemigonus crysoleucas (golden shiner)
  • Lepomis macrochirus (bluegill sunfish)
  • Lepomis gibbosus (pumpkinseed sunfish)
  • Ictalurus nebulosus (brown bullhead)
  • Micropterus salmoides (largemouth bass)
  • Micropterus dolomieu (smallmouth bass)
  • Esox niger (chain pickerel)
  • Esox americanus americanus (redfin pickerel)
  • Orconectes virilus (crayfish species)
  • Orconectes immunis (crayfish species)
  • Ambloplites rupestris (rock bass)
  • Pomoxis nigromaculatus (black crappie)
  • Perca flavescens (yellow perch)
  • Catostomus commersoni (white sucker)
  • Carassius auratus (goldfish)
  • Cyprinus carpio (common carp)
  • Morone chrysops (white bass)
  • Amia calva (bowfin)

I live less then 20 minutes away so I guess I'll try fishing there in the Spring

Dude, get a camera! $25 for two from aquatic zombie. All these stories and no pictures. Like reading a picture book and getting nothing but simple sentences.

I am off from work tomorrow and heading to lake now to fish for bowfin. I have never caught nor seen a single one only channel cats .

I hope there are some there as know they are in Florida and its a huge canal fed lake but again never caught one . Only lake in area (All the lakes connect) so local type fishing .

I use chicken livers.
