my dad has a saltwater protien filter on his tank and it keeps his crystal clear and he wants to put one on my 120gallon fw tank... i was just curious on if this is a good idea or not?

depends on the hardness/softness of your water. the harder the water, the less it foams. no foam no protein skimming. it will work but just not as effective as the salt setup. I think the clarity of a salt water system has a bit to do with the refraction of salt in the water.

my water is soft im guessing cuz there is alota foam at the top of the water... its a cycled tank its ben up for almost 2 months now.. but he wants to buy me one so its gona be free.. so idk lol

it probaby wont do much besides oxygenate the water.

hrm, then i might not even have him spend the 100+$ on it than... my tanks clear only thing wrong is i need to scrub the glass and the background poster makes it look a lil green.. but besides that everything is perfect

I woulnt mess with it then. if anything buy more biological filtration just for good measure.

heh i think im takeing my live plant out of the water and adding anouther pleco to the native tank then my 120 gallon is complete

kk im goan tell him ill pass on the filter :) thanks guys
