Would a protein skimmer have any kind of benefits in a freshwater tank? Reason I'm asking is the setup that I bought came with a protein skimmer and they had no use, so of course I will take it if I paid for it! Would it have any kind of benefits, or not make any sort of difference and just be a waste of energy? I am thinking of trying to trade it off for something usefull to me, but I guess I'll see any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Only commercial-size pressure line protein skimmers will work as a foam fractionator in FW tanks. The standard hobbyist skimmers will not work as protein skimmers but, can function well to aerate your system.

so in that case since I plan on putting an airstone in it would be pointless. Thanks Oddball nice to know! Anyone in need of a protein skimmer? I would like to trade it off for something I can use, perhaps a light for my 75 gallon (48") or moonlighting or perhaps a cool/ unique fish or driftwood (cleaned and prepared of course) or something.
