protein skimmer in frshwater?

anyone with larger tanks use these? i hear some poeple do. i also hear there not very effective in freshwater. anyone have any imput on this? would it be benifishal at all? i guess would it be better for a tank thats heavily stoked? the tank would ahve a large sump by the way. any feed back would be nice.

I've purchased a Clarity (CL-3), but it'll be a long time before we use it. We've applied for a building permit, which could take another month for approval, and we're probably going to go owner/builder, DIY for construction of our addition/garage. So the new fish room isn't going to be happening any time soon. Plan on connecting the Clarity to a 330 gallon sump.
 
a traditional saltwater skimmer will not work too well in freshwater since freshwater isn't as dense as saltwater is and the whole process of "foam fractioning" depends on that. Basically, save your pennies:)
 
ok thanks. man that thign is cool but i wouldnt spend a grand on it haha.
