This is going to sound stupid I know. But am upgrading to a little bit bigger tank, 40 gallon tall I am picking up (for freeeee). I have a protein skimmer thats rated for 100 gallons. If I put it on the 40, will it have any negative impact on it? Can I "over skim"?I know i like to over filter my freshwaters, but I am new to salt.

Thanks!

+1 skimming is all I do for filtration.

Plus this way if you want to upgrade its easy.

I would just recommend that if you are going to have corals, that you turn your skimmer off before you feed, and I leave mine off (all filtration) for 45 minutes while I let the powerheads blow the food around the tank.

if anything it's better. i'm pretty sure it will only do a more efficient job then a skimmer made for a 40 gal.

i say "skim the crap out of that tank"....no pun intended.

lol signatureable.

Awesome thanks everyone. I went ahead and threw it on the 20 while I am waiting for the tank owners to come back from the coast. I may end up actually trading this set up for someones 75g setup who is wanting to downgrade :D How long does it take for stuff to start bubbling up in the top chamber?
