protein skimmers

Should the protein skimmer stay on 24/7 or should i only run it a few hours a day? i have read mix storys on this so im confused on what i should do. some articles i have read sad to only run the protein skimmer a few hours a day, other articles say you should only turn it off when your cleaning the tank. whats your opion on this. do you keep your skimmer running 24/7 or do you let it run a few hours a day then shut it off?

Protein skimmers should NOT be run more than 3 hours per 24 hour cycle.......

I bet a thousand to one you heard the only run your protein skimmer for 3 hours a day from the fine makers of miracle mud. I leave it on 24/7 no problems what so ever they are meant to remove the bad organics running them 24/7 will not harm anything in your system.

24/7, but that does not mean forget about it. If the cup fills up it will overflow back into the tank/sump. That is bad. make sure you check it or have it drain off into a 5 gallon bucket.
