Hi, i recently made a 135 gallon fiberglass tank and bought a male and female Crenicichla proteus to try out in the new tank. After 4 weeks and some waterchanges they bred today. I got around 100 eggs and they spawned at two different locations. The eggs are white and i was wondering if its normal and is breeding proteus common in aquariums? :nilly:

Update! I got around 150 fry's now after 5 days from being laid on 3 different places under the caves i made for them 5 days ago ;) When will they be free swimming and do i need to feed them anything the first days/weeks after they start swimming or will the parents provide the food?

Also... the parents dug up my potted plant and gravel right next to the cave. What are they up to haha, making a little pool for the babies? :P

I will try get some shots of the tank, the proud parents and the babies :D

Do you have other tank mates with them? The pits they dug yes, they like to put the fry in them when they become free swimming, don't be alarmed just let them do their thing. If you have tank mates you could try dividing the tank otherwise cichlids are great parents they should take care of them
