Im picking up a used 75 gal tank and the seller has a protien skimmer that they offered to throw in with it.I know people use protien skimmers for saltwater but does anyone use them on freshwater tanks, would there be any point?
Yes you can use a protien skimmer on a fresh water aquarium however I doubt that the typical model aimed at saltwater aquariums would work. You will need greater water pressure from your pump and venturi and the injection of ozone will help also. I have done this before sucsessfully but it was a home made skimmer.
If it's included, get it. If it's a nice one keep it for a future saltwater aquarium or sell it like Miles suggested. What do you have to loose?
Maybe i will take it. You guys are corrpting my effort to "reform"I was planning on moving last summer and got rid of enough junk to fill 2 tractor trailers and thats after a garage cleanout that involved the largest dumpster available.I didnt end up moving but im amazed at how much extra room I have now
Ok so I ended up taking the protien skimmer, will post it on buy/sell as soon as I get a chance to take some pics. Its an aquarium systems seaclone skimmer.oh and btw the new tank looks great.
