I just got a aquatic life submergable protien skimmer today. The bubles are near the top of the collection box and the water level is near the top of the cup too, Is this normal? When will the gunk start piling up? How often will I have to clean it? How much of a diffrence will there be in water clarity and water prams? How does the skimmer work? I am just curious so please answer my questions. Thanks!

The protein floats onto the bubbles that overflow into the collection cup... That's the easiest way I can put it.

It takes a little bit for the skimmer to break in, so you might not get decent skimmate, i.e. the gunk that the skimmer removes, for a few days or even weeks.
The skimmer already has a dscusting coloration in the water so I think mine will break in quick. Thanks for the advice.
It looks your skimmer is an HOB skimmer. While your skimmer was breaking in you should have had it at its lowest setting. Once it has broken in you can SLOWLY raise the level in the skimmer. I mean one small adjustment a day. You will eventually find the sweet spot with your skimmer. The amount of skimmate will vary depending on what is your stock list and what size tank?
