Over at my buddys house we have a 125 gallon setup with 5 RBPs all around 4-5". I added 3 Exodons to the mix which are now around 3 inches. The tank is pretty bare with some plants in the mix and some nice current from a powerhead. Now, I have 3 Oscars that are about the same size as the RBs. Do you think they could co-exist well with them? I want to try it but I am very worried about the beautiful fins on my oscars. They are all "show" quality and wouldn't want something happening. Do you think it would be worth it? Or would the piranhas just tear their fins up. Is there anything I can add to the tank so the oscars have a place to call their own? All comments and suggestions welcome!

when introduced while young enough, piranhas are less territorial and oscars can cohabit with them. personnaly, i'd have introduce bit bigger oscars just to be sure. you gotta keep in mind do that ps are unpredictable and after mounths of peace freedom, it could be the apocalypse in there. still, oscars are good gests but still, be ready for anything...as for the o's, i dunno much about them so i won't comment...

Thanks, I'm not worried about the exo's since theyve been with the P's since young. I actually added them to make the Ps more active.

Trust me don't do it mybe not now but sooner or later the Piranha's will eat your Oscar's......

If these are ‘show quality’ oscars that you would hate to see get damaged, it kind of makes sense not to add them to a piranha tank. Time and time again, basic rule is don’t put anything in with piranhas that you are attached to or will be sad to see go. If you do not care much for these Oscars, by all means go for it. As for ‘a place for the Oscars to call their own’, 3 structures of some kind spread out would mean each will have a territory. This might also help them survive with the piranhas as their instinct of defending territory will kick in.

I really do love the O's but I need to get them in a bigger tank. I really wish I could just find someone to adopt them that would take care of them correctly. BTW is taht a SEAT in your avatar?

Yeah a tank divider:grinno:

But seriously, the Os may survive and cohabitate with the Ps but it will cost them. Fin nipping is a constant with Ps. If ya are ok with losing an O, try it, otherwise look for other options.

ive got a large pair of albino O's and i added 3 3"RBP's about 2 month ago and now their about 4.5" and no wars yet, ew'll see down the road, btu your kinda doin the oposite by puting the oscars in as the minority and the same size could be violent.but you never know oscars are a bold visous fish and theyll really surprise you.just keep nthe P's well fed and maby there wont be a problem.
