Found this picture posted of my winning specimen. I put this guy in the ACA fish show this past year on a whim. To my surprise, he took Best in Class, Best of Division and Reserve Best of Show(2nd place). It was argued by a few of the judges that mine should have won overall, but no need to get into any type of argument.

Enjoy!

No love?

Would love to keep this species, even though honestly I only just researched it after seeing this post. Beautiful specimen you have. If you breed this guy (which I'm sure you do from seeing your set ups) is there any chance of getting some fry shipped?

I still have this guy. He is in a tank by himself growing for Denver. His trailers are even longer now.

I have a breeding group of these. They are brother/sister to mu show male. Same blood line.
They are starting to become frequent spawners, but I need to offload a few males first. This fish is very male heavy. Hopefully they will be producing a bunch of fry soon. I may give shipping a shot at that point, but in not sure yet. Taking these fish day by day. Super hard to find these guys.

The males are definitely very showy. I watched a few clips on YouTube and I love the way they flash their black dorsals during spawning. It's a bit odd how the females look like totally different fish.

Are these a peaceful fish?

They're relatively peaceful compared to say, mbuna. Males can be rough on each other and females.

They're easy to keep and breed. I sold my last ones about a year or so ago.

There's another variety that's floating around the hobby called Ps. multicolor victoriae (AKA incorrectly Ps. philander dispersus) that's yellow, smaller and more peaceful. Here's a bad picture of them

It's funny how these things go in phases. When we had a couple of people in the club breeding both of these, we couldn't get $1 a bag for them. So people - including me - quit keeping them in the belief that others would take over (and to make room for other fish). And no one did so they're hard to find at the moment!

It's a shame that showing fish requires keeping them isolated...

I have a group of the multicolor as well. Tons more fry out of those than the nicholsi.

Of course, he is solo because he killed everything else in the tank. Others have been peaceful. Him...not so much.

Yeah, I'll eventually try and reintroduce him to the group. If I fly to Denver, that may be sooner than later. If I drive, I may show him one more time.
