I have 2 pseudoplatystoma corruscans both over 30" but they've started fighting with each other quite aggressively which has resulted in the larger 36" one having cuts and scratches... this has never happened before in the last 10months I've had them together

Only experience i had was with 2 fasciatums that were around the 18 inch to 24 inch and they never left each others sides. I wonder if its just as yours are getting larger there becoming more solitary and territorial to others of the same family? Interesting as all of a sudden its started. I could always of rehomed one if it werent for the healthy price tag they come with lol.i seen them advertised when piers got them in great rare catfish.hope the aggression settles for you!

Almost no one has one corruscans. No one has two. Even if one did, tanks differ. Perhaps the 1600 gal is getting too small? I've only seen fasciatum fight sporadically and when smaller, ~1'. One would most definitely dominate the other. Wednesday13?

It does not sound you are sure that it is the two corruscans, or are you? Have you caught them red handed?

We need Wednesday's input!

Well, to me it sounds like any TSN spp can and do engage in this behavior. Crudely, we may think there is no spp dependence.

TBH, IDK why TSN mostly appear ok with each other and yet sometimes would fight IME. Most certainly space helps. The larger the tank, the easier it is for the bullied party to stay clear of the aggressor, as simple as that. Age and sex may matter too. Up to 6"-8", TSNs appear to cohab just fine. At 1', there appears to be trouble and hierarchical and/or territorial disputes and enforcement. At 1.5'-2.5', it appears peaceful again.

FWIW.

I am surprised no one else has been writing. Surely many people have kept more than 1 TSN together.

As an example, my two jaus at 10" and 6" were kept in a 120 gal for a few days. The 6"-er would be 100% dead if I let him stay another day or two. Yet, they managed to stay far enough away from each other in a 1000 gal at 2' and 1.5' and in 4500 gal at 2.5' and 2' to survive each others company. Not without an irregular beating and biting but they survived. I believe they would have no chance in smaller enclosures. The smaller one was brave and instigated half the fights but it'd be dead for sure. See this for more http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=34777&hilit=jau

Someone say cat fight? im in lol...been busy at a new job guys, sorry. I dont think it has anything to do with diff or same specie agression...I've never owned a corruscans but i'd imagine they act like the 3 other specie ive owned in the genus, there just bigger :). Big cats fight, small cats coming up in size in the group fight...and sometimes ive seen an instigator 12-18"er take on a 30" when there feelin fresh. Due to accepting catfish "donations" in my earlier years i've housed large groups of this genus in particular. At one point in time i had up to 17 tsn living together in a 12' diamater pool. As the years went on the numbers dwindled and i observed. Some people dropped off 20-24" fish that were shredded to death or eaten immediatly, over night, through the week....and others dropped off 12-24"ers that were left alone for yrs. as they grew and joined the "pack"... In the end after 3-4yrs my tsn pack was around 8 fish. I rehomed a couple due to the majority being p. faciatum and currently still house 5 in a community style 1400 gal....2 fasciatum, 1 tigrinum, 1 reticulatum and one Tsnxlei hybrid ranging from 24-36"... These 5 have lived together for 5-7 yrs now and they still get into it from time to time. Never to the death (knock on wood) but torn fins and side action batteling in circles slamming each other with pec fins is a common sight in any "community" catfish tank even of the same genus. Rule #1, they choose who lives and dies, not you...lol... Hard lesson to learn, but i keep my favorite/rarer cats alone these days for a reason. Theres always a chance u find them torn to bits when the lights come on regardless of size in most cases. FME its usually the 18-20"ers who feel ballsy and start the fight. ive seen them chase around cats twice their size relentlessly but again it can go either way for no apparent reason. Good news in a "community" tank is that the agression is usually spread out, some get it worse than others, and life goes on.... I'd say let em go at it, it will usually subside....if not, youll still have one. Thats the risk taken in any community tank. I've seen a pack of Tsn single one fish out as a group and beat it to death until every last bit is consumed lol... not funny really but very cool imo to see them act as a unit. They attacked fish they lived with for 5 min and fish they lived with for 5 yrs with no discretion and for no apparent reason from my standpoint. May sound crazy, but adding another may disperse the agression and or make them team up as a group, kinda like typical schooling dithers, 2 usually doesnt work, odd numbers usually do, and in most cases the more the better :). I'd look into another set up for ur biggens, if those boys are as big as i think they are by now, id be worried they smash right through the glass lol... I can hear mine smashing lids/walls, jumping, splashing and grunting through the floor of my house. Surface feeding time is like the splash zone at sea world, when i ran my pool they threw water up to 10' out of the tank. Enough to wake me up in the night thinking someone had flown out. Dont have to get crazy, My intex pool cost me $400-500 to set up with a liner and filter and served me and the fish well for 2 yrs. Wood/liner ponds with windows are very affordable also. probably half what you spent on that glass. Keep ur "show cats"/favorites behind glass and set up something for the "general pop" fish. As always, hope my rant helps lol....

What a great read from Mr. TSN again! Thanks, Wednesday!

" Wood/liner ponds with windows are very affordable also. probably half what you spent on that glass..."

For years I have been paying attention and looking for how to make a reliable 50-year liner-to-window seal. I've seen only a handful DIYs without needed longevity data. If you have much to say, I'll make up a thread in DIY section. Otherwise, a quick off-topic answer would be ok here, please.

Window to liner seal is solved in my eyes lol...Gold Label Aquarium and pond sealer/silicone is the best answer. Not often available in the states but its common across the pond. I learned of it from our member "satans goldfish" back in 08ish? I used it on a 650gal...been running since 2010 now. Expensive here in the u.s. but its worth every penny. Cheaper option is 3m5200...my 1400gal uses this. Its o.k. and it works fine but after using gold label theres no comparison. The gold label is similiar to what ive seen used at zoos, very ridgid, almost asphault like and even cures underwater. Id like a pallet of it lol...dont understand y its so hard to get here.

Great input wednesday and biggerthebetter. Seriously tho liam if one is up for sale if aggression gets to much i maybe interested in buying one im only in leicester and have a tropical pond.
