Anyone have any pictures or own one of these tiger's? I just moved the cats into their pool yesterday and was struck by my TSN's very shark-like tail. after doing abit of digging and research I think this may be what species I have, but I can't seem to find any pictures of this cat.. just lots of TSN's and I don't know enough about them to say 100% the pictures are or are not this species? any help from you guys?

Cannot help much. Never seen them. Never had to deal with them.

From the revision: Buitrago-Suárez, U.A. and B.M. Burr, 2007. Taxonomy of the catfish genus Pseudoplatystoma Bleeker (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) with recognition of eight species. Zootaxa 1512:1-38.

Vertebrae: 43. Can be diagnosed by a combination of the following characters: rays on dorsal and ventral lobes of caudal fin with fused branches or not separated as in other species of Pseudoplatystoma; wide straight, dark vertical bars on sides; absence of loops on nape and associated areas; dorsal and ventral regions of pectoral fin pale with no spots; dorsal fin with few or no spots (sometimes 5 spots); 43 vertebrae; adipose fin with 6-7 large spots; areas surrounding the procurrent rays of dorsal fin without spots; posterior region of the metapterygoid wider than in other species, forming a depression or notch in the dorsal margin of the suspensorium.

I assume they must be talking about a specimen that's matured and whose pattern won't evolve anymore.

I'll have to brush up on my anatomy.. But I deffinately noticed the difference in what I typically see in TSN's hide ends. which made me stop and really Look at the tail... Granted now that she's in the 1k pool I'm assuming she'll pick-up growth again ( not to mention the giant school of feeders atm in there.) I plan on pulling her sometime this coming winter. Kid number 2 is due in Oct.. so maybe nov or dec I"ll be able too attempt to fish her out. just an FYI she went in at 14" nose to tail... and is about 1yr old now I think? I snapped a bunch of picture of her before going in... I'll see if any show her tail good.

=/ nobody has a picture? I would def love Necro's info on them.. watching this cat now in the 1k she is very much the predator not a scavenger ect ( may be why had such an issue getting her offa live as well.. still won't take pellets but at least she'll eat dead) But I think alot of TSN's are more predatory?

ah well I'll pull her next time I have an excuse/need and take some better pictures then. I have a few decent ones but nothing that really shows the tail. and she needs some more inches to get a better ID yet. But it's fun guessing! and learning more about TSN's in general from ya'll

There is a pic on FishBase showing nice body profile.

AFAIK, all TSNs are about equally predatory, partly sight-oriented active pursuit and partly ambush predators in the wild. I do not find where the shape of the caudal distinguishes the magdaleniatum. Anyone, if you know differently, please correct me.

Necro has not logged on since Mar 3 2013. Without any sign, he just disappeared, from much activity to zero. Per Chicxulub, the Mods have recently discussed this but do not know what's happening either. We all are concerned and worried - it does not look good.

I have been wondering where he went...

sorry but it does
anyways back the topic MonsterMinis your TSN i believe is a Pseudoplatystoma tigrinum not Pseudoplatystoma magdaleniatum

Somebody turn on the Necro signal!

give this a nudge now that I see your back... would def like your Input on what species you think she may be... just measured her at 20" the other night when we had to over-haul the pool.... no change in her patterning ect from the tank pics above. ( other then shes much more active and "healthy" looking imo.)
