WTF!?!?
My senegalus is nuts, dude.
He is now about 6 inches long.
I have a 7 inch shovelnose sturgeon.

Something in the tank catches me out the corner of my eye.

I go over and this dang nutjob has his mouth firmly clamped down on the body of the sturgeon right in front of his tail!

Sturgeon is trying to swim/fling him off by thrashing his tail, but this psycho is hanging on like a pit bull on a rag tied to a bicycle tire.

I grab the net to separate them, (thinking the sturgeon must be dying and had become prey) as soon as the net gets within range, he lets go and they both swim off like its just another day in the park.

I see no sign of injury or bad health with either fish.
I took the sturgeon out and put him in my new 65g tank I was setting up for a guppy breeder.
(Had 8 guppies yesterday, 12 now)
I guess now it has to double as a hospital/grow tank until this Sturgeon grows out a little more.

IS this unusual?
Any idea why this happened?
Will my bicher eat duded bigger than HE is?

I noticed this Saturday morning, and moved the sturgeon then, So far he is doing fine and eating well.

If you take care of your fish well i'd be more worried about the sturgeon eating the bichir. The sturgeon should be fine though

What makes you say that?

From what I understand the shovelnose is more of a scavenger than a carnivour.
Shovelnose typically max out in captivity at the 2.5 ft range. 3 to 4 ft in the wild.

And a sen only will grow to about a foot. If the sen could fit in his mouth he'd eat it. By all means I'm no expert on sturgeon my experience with them is limited to selling them

AH! Gotcha. Supposedly the shovel averages about 18" to 20" at 5 years old.
So I'm hoping to have a MUCH larger tank for him and the clown knife well before then.
Which ones do you sell? And how much?

We had some sterlets in late spring when we know people are looking to get pond fish. I think they were like 12.99 at 3 inches I remember they sold really quickly
