Does anyone know what the perfect active puffer species for a 75 gallon aquarium would be. There are a lot of small puffers and huge puffers, does anyone know of a medium size species ?

Humpbacks are too inactive, i don't want a 75 that looks empty. I would love to have a group of South American puffers but I've heard so many stories about their teeth problems I'm hesitant. Does anyone have experience with amazons, how hard are they really and how many would be good for a 75 gallon aquarium

^ if you want something active then South American Puffers is your best bet, could maybe get 3 into a 75G...

As for teeth trimming, there is a sticky in this section of the forum explaining what needs to be done, so maybe have a look into it and see if its something you think you could do if needed???

just keep a constant supply of snails in the tank. I have 1 in a 20 gallon long and don't have any issues with it's "teeth"

Yeah, that's what I'm researching now, trying to find out where I can get an army of snails. What kind of snails do you feed primarily? Their not huge puffers. Will regular pond snails work for them their whole life or will they need something bigger?

milkman407 milkman407 i think it depends on the puffer, i've also heard of many others keep a school of them (all on constant hard shelled diets) but still needed their teeth trimmed every 6-12 months

I don't know, I might not do a puffer in this tank, what I ultimately want is a fahaka so, I should just wait till I can do that, that is, when I can afford a 150 gallon aquarium. Now I'm thinking of doing an Australian/New Guinea tank. Dwarf Australian Rainbows, empire Gudgeons, and peacock Gudgeons
