Hey guys.

So i have a 90g with a red sevrrum (5") and a pooypterus palmas poli (7"). I was wondering if its possible to add a puffer in the mix? If so which species would be a good idea?

Short answer? No.

Puffers make poor tankmates for nearly any fish. They're easily bullied and have dangerous weaponry if they ever attacked or retaliated. The severum and poly will get too large for the only possibly compatible species for a 90g freshwater tank, which would be the SAP (south american puffer). Your poly could already swallow a SAP whole.

Is this the same set up you had kept the humpback in?

Somewhat. The oscar has been moved to a new home so i only have the poly and severum left. But im not going to rush another impulse buy this time.

Best to just give a puffer its own tank. I wish there were more choices with puffers but it seems like you get those that would work great in mid sized tanks like a 40B and then it goes to the other extreme and you need a minimum of 120g.

so what would be a cool/weird looking fish i could add? Puffers are cute n look funny but they're not an option. What would work? I doubt a stingray is a good idea

Rays are out for sure. I see you already have a bichir, could give it a tankmate or two. Ive always wanted to do an African oddball tank with things like a butterfly fish at the top, a school of Congo tetras, a brown knife, leaf fish, maybe a synodontis cat and bichirs....

Well i think butterfly fish would prob get killed by the bichir :s. But maybe a catfish is a possible idea, the whiskers are funny and they eat like pigs

There are many catfish species that would work.
As for Pufferfish, Humpbacks are your only hope. I have kept multiple in communities with Bichirs (Delhezi, Weeksii, Endlicheri, Ornates) with minimal issues.
Good luck.
