hi, i have a quick question on puffer fish. i will be setting up a community tank with a ghost knife and a pleco. idk what else i want yet but i have the pleco now but want to buy a ghost knife. the tank size is 35 gal. i dont want a brackish puffer. i want a true FW. i looked at the other threads and didnt find exact information. i dont want a puffer that will kill all my fish. i want a kind and polite puffer. lol. if it grows out of my tank i could put it in my 75 gal with a ray. so which type of puffer would be best suitable for the information i have provided? i wouldn't mind kepping 2 of the same kind puffers. or even 2 different kind. so just let me know. :headbang2:headbang2:chillpill:

Puffers are notorious fin nippers, they are best kept alone or with other puffer of a similar size. Your best bet is setting up a dedicated tank solely for the puffer.

I agree with the poster above, there is basically no polite puffer... also with your stock and tank size its going to be hard to find any puffer that would work... either they would be too small and i'd worry that the knife would kill it or the puffer would get too big and kill the knife/pleco and outgrow the 35G...

So depending on how badly you want a puffer, it maybe an idea to setup another 30G for just a single puffer..

yeah forget it then. do ghost knifes grow fast? like what are really cool fish for a community tank? i know i want 2 ghosts. any more suggestions? its a sand bottom tank so that could help or not help.

Also, although i'm no expert on Ghost Knives, i just thought i would mention that wouldn't the ghost knife outgrow a 35G tank, coz if i remember correctly they grow to close to 20"...

welll i'll move it to 75 gal or sell it. i can work that out. but i really dont like bottom dwellers. i love ghosts though. i want active cool fish. puffers are cool and active but im glad i researched before buying one. thanks guys.

You'll find better info in the knife thread for BGK's. If you're going to do it, only do one in your tank specifications. Two will kill each other without a very large system. On growth, some go fast and some go slow. Depends on diet size etc...

I think there is a sticky on BGK's though, do check it out and good luck.
