Hi puffer experts, can I get a positive ID of this puffer? It looks marine to me but they are kept in FW by my supplier and other importers. Some have been kept for a few years in pure FW without any problems they assured me. I personally think these look really nice but don't know much about them.

Kinda looks like a "stars and stripes" puffer but those are saltwater. Very interesting post for me as I own a fahaka! lol

I've kept fahaka, mbu, baileyi and Congo before. This one is definitely the stunner out of the bunch though. I'm very tempted to get one but trying to find out more info.

You after I googled it, it seems look a lot like it, probably is this species. These guys have been kept in FW for years.. Doesn't seem to be harming them if they are actually marine fish. Can anyone chime in on that?

I see I see, duly noted. I'll keep an eye on this puffer. They have been keeping them in pure FW for years without issue so it's strange.

That is definitely a stars and stripes puffer (Marine Species)... So if someone is claiming to have kept once in F/W for years, i have to say i'm personally quite doubtful...

Any more info on the tank etc from the person whos claiming they can live in Fresh???

Plenty, there's about 6 in the china fish group chat I am in. There's also about a dozen of them at my suppliers shop right now. He's carried them for years and it's always been FW. Hence why I am on the forums posting about it.
