Hi...anyone know how if a fig 8 puffer will be fine in a tanganyikan tank..i bought one today...the guy in local LFS said they do well in any setup..so i went on his advice and made the purchase..not sure now! went down to buy calvus but they were out of stock! while i was there a guy dropped a whole tin of cichlid pellets into a tank! must have been 600 pellets in total..very funny..panic stations. poor lad said he had a bad hangover from paddy's day.

Ummm... I dont think adding a puffer would be a good Idea, but they are found near lake tang. Not sure about figure8's but There's one that looks like a green spot puffer or something that lives in tributaries.

That guy should have called out instead of coming in and polluting the system LOL.I think most of the puffers are nippers.

The Fahaka puffer(Nile puffer) is found in and near the lake. Fahaka puffers are very aggresive and grow very large(over two feet). I keep mine in a tank by itself.

The figure 8 have been kept with community fish tanks before but it also depends on what Tang you are keeping. Remember that some Tangs are vegiterians and the puffers only eat live food or frozen food. They mostly will not take pellets or flakes. Plus if the puffer is put in with aggresive Tangs the Tangs could get damage from the bite of a puffer. What tangs will you be keeping with the puffer?

Well...i've 3 brevis,5 occies,3 julies,2 common plecs,1 tang cat,1 syno cat,3 multies. multies pretty much rule the tank, very aggressive towards everything...also all fish in the tank are very young. i plan on addng 2 calvus in the next week or two.

Fig 8's are not freshwater puffers. They do best in low-mid end brackish and in this case salinity makes the difference, hard water will not suffice.
Fig 8 puffers can make decent community fish with species of compatible water chemistry such as bumblebee gobies, halfbeaks, orange chromides, knight gobies, violet gobies, etc., they are one of the most peaceful puffers but it does not mean that they will all be peaceful.
I would not put a Figure 8 puffer in a Tang tank.
