ok, i don't have a pic but i saw these two puffers at a pet store near me, and they were labeled as two spot puffer or something. they had blood red eyes and were on sale from $9.99 to $7.99. they were green, one was darker than the other, and had funky designs that i can't remember. the guy said that they get around 5-6 inches. they just sat at the bottom of the tank. does any body know what this fish is? i searched it and found nothing.

my second question is

could a couple of figure eights, or if you guys can id it, the fish spoken of above, live with a featherfin synodontis, a red tail shark, and two jewel cichlids in a 35?

oh ya, i'll get a pic next time i'm there (which will hopefully be soon)

Might be an Arrowhead Puffer if it's just laying on the bottom. I wouldn't put any fish in with Puffers. They're too aggressive, IMO.

Arrowhead and Target are the first that come to mind. Could well be wrong though. Don't mix the 8's with a synodontis. 8's are brackish, which is your first problem. They've also been known to fin nip. I've seen them in brackish community tanks but most of the other occupants were puffers. Every puffer is different and you might just snag one with a golden personality but I think 8's are out of the running with the other occupants you've listed..

i searched target puffer fish and i think that that is what they are. could i mix a target with a figure eight? could i mix any puffer species? i might just empty my tank in order to get some of these guys.

oh ya, are targets very active?

Regardless of the species, your answer is No.

Could be either of the red-eyed carinotetraodons as well..

I can think of two possible problems with mixing. The first is salinilty. THe figure 8 is a brackish fish and while the Target is often listed as being FW/brackish, I've heard more than a few people claim they are strictly FW. If anyone knows for sure I welcome them to chime in. You should ask your lfs what they are keeping the Target at as well. The other possible problem is fin nipping and aggression. This is once again about personality but most info I've seen insists a species only tank for Target puffers. As for activity you might be happier with the figure 8, they're fun to watch and move around a lot. The Targets I've seen were pretty much stationary.

If the eyes get you then you might wanna look at a Green spotted puffer. I've seen a few with blue eyes and it looks great on them. They also have more personality than I've seen in Targets.
