hey guys just wondering if puffers are reef safe? if not what type of salt setup are best for them?

thanks
Thomas

I can only comment on Arothron puffers, they have a habit of biting off large chunks of rock to wear down there beaks, so keeping them in a reef system would be risky. However it is not all bad news, it is possible to still have some stunning rock formations in a puffer system. I have made tall column structures with live rock, held together with thick acrylic rods. But it has to be very sturdy to withstand the attentions of the puffer.

tobies are reef safe with luck.
i had a blue spot it never showed interest in any corals. inverts were another matter tho.

edit: i toby is a smaller puffer
