Hey, so I was at a lfs and saw some cute puffers, they were green spotted and figure 8's. Please don't flame me, I just want to learn about them and ask a few noob questions. And no I did not buy them I'm doing research. So I understand there is a possibility that they will destroy everything put with them so I wanted to do a species tank. I found out it takes them a while to reach 6 inches and the ones at the lfs were only 1.5-2 inches. Would I be able to have one in a 10 gallon growout? And when would I start to increase the salinity? Also wat do u recomend that has personality and is just the coolest, figure 8 or GSP? ;)
please also help me get correct info, oh and I do understand what cycling is and that they need a cycled tank before you put them in. Thanks again!

lol- nice post. **************.com has tons of information on these species. You will need to keep a gsp in brackish and eventually marine conditions. Most people say no tankmates, but I think it depends on the individual puffer. Just like people, some are mean little fin-nippers and some aren't.10 gallon seems a little small they are some messy little eaters. Wait til a couple others pitch in - lots of experienced puffer-keepers on here

Thanks lol glad you like the post! They were just soo small at the store so I was thinking that I should grow them out a little. Thanks for the website I'm looking at it right now! ;)

Yup, They are definitely one of the coolest fish that i have owned. I've got 2 gsp's and my wife has an f8. They love to beg for food and give you those puppy dog eyes.

Mine are in an overstocked 130- lol gotta upgrade soon too. They don't need tons of space but they seem to love playing in currents and bubbles and whatnot. The main thing would be keeping the tank clean and water parameters good.

Can they eat ghost shrimp? Lol they are just too cute! Which puffer do u like better gsp or figure 8? I'm trying to figure out the pros and cons

The figure 8 Is beautiful, Has awesome coloration and personality, mine seems a little bit more shy than the gsp's. The gsp's remind me of mood rings, if they are happy and healthy they glow nicely. but seems like they get darker and off colored if they get moody or whatever. Mine eat anything they can get ahold of, but they love piggin out on fresh market shrimp.

Ikept a dwarf puffer in the past and recently bought 2 GSP's.
I'm currently in the proces of making the water brackish, for when i bought them they were in fresh water.

And indeed they have moodswings, and they will change colour.

I keep them in a 40 Gl tank for now and they are still small.
Got an HOB filter and an Extrernal Eheim for i read they like the current and need overfiltration.
And i love them allready, very nice personalities.
