You will not believe the week I have had. I was out on Wednesday night when I got a call that my tank sprung a leak. I came home to find out that my 29 gallon cracked on the bottom. Fortunately, it was on a stand that had a solid top, so the fish were swimming in a pool of about 10 gallons of water. Unfortunately, the other 20 gallons was all over my bedroom carpet. My hubby was trying to catch the water dripping out of the tank in a bucket while at the same time running the shampooer to suck up the water. After a lot of work, we got all the livebearer fish in a good 10 gallon and got a good portion of the water off the floor. Took hours. It went under the bed as well, and have been spending yesterday trying to suck up the rest while running a small heater and fan to dry the carpet.

Even though the lfs owner said it was a defect in the aquarium, the manufacturer would not replace it. So, I got a perfecto 30 gallon long with matching stand. What the heck...it's prettier anyway. Set up the stand, leveled...put on the tank...leveled...put in 1/3 water...leveled...another 1/3 and so on until it was filled. Waited an hour and added the plants and decorations from the 29 gallon which I had soaking in a bucket. Another hour and I added a heater and bubbling decoration. I knew the fish were stressed, so I decided to wait until today to switch them over to the new tank.

Today, I was checking the other tanks and found my 14 gallon with 4 guppies in it had a chip on the back side. I don't know if the chip has been there all along or not, but I figured I better get them a new one. They ended up in an Eclipse 12 gallon acrylic tank, just in case. Of course, there is a huge snow storm, so it took me 2 hours to get to Petsmart 3 miles away and home again. After spending $100 (ouch), I was happy that I don't have to worry about another tank breaking. About 3 hours later, as I was finishing up cleaning the bedroom as best as I can, I heard a 'pop'. I looked around...didn't see anything and gave a sigh of relief. A few minutes later, my hubby came home with a beautiful new castle ornament for my beautiful new tank. I think he got it to cheer me up. Well, as he was looking in the tank to figure where to put it, he noticed that the seam on the left side front of the new 30 was not right. He touched it, and got a nice cut on his finger for his trouble. So, here we were tonight, instead of cleaning up the carpet which is now starting to have a nasty smell or old boots, we were draining a brand new tank into 4 gallon buckets and removing everything inside.

I will have to call the lfs tomorrow and let them know what happened. I am so upset about this. When I bring in, clean or whatever any of my tanks, I am so very careful with them. After all, they are housing my babies. My tanks are level. Ugh!

That's awful, hopefully tomorrow will be better.

So sorry to hear the tank sprung a leak. I would be loosing hair or hair graying if I had to go through this mess. I hope your LFS has good customer service practice and make good will to compensate for your time cleaning up this mess. Be sure to inspect carefully with a bright LED flashlight before taking it home.

I just picked up a 75 acrylic setup this weekend and was upset that the carpenter used cheap unsanded plywood on the top of the stand. The wood was so rough that I could get splinters just be sliding my hands acrros it. The back of the stand was not fully supported with enough wood. I ended up spending another $50 out of my pocket for wood supplies to reinforce the stand. While I was at Home Depot, I was going to get the el cheapo foam board but ended up paying $25 for the foam sheets they used for wood flooring. This stuff is pricey but may save me a bunch of headaches down the life.

The lfs is going to help me make everything right. She is always giving me little freebies for giving her so many referrals and business. She feels just as bad as I do, but let's face it, she has to make money. She would have replaced the 29 gallon for me if she could have, and is still fighting with the manufacturer to get them to replace it.
