I switched to a wet dry about a month ago and (as the title suggests) wanted to know when I can safely pull it? Also, any hints on how to do it? I was honestly thinking of just pulling the uplift tubes and capping them, but would love to hear what has worked for others. I'm not averse to yanking all my rocks to do this, but I have a female holding and don't want to upset her any more than I have to. I want the clutter out of the tank, but if it's going to cause a big problem and a mini-cycle or whatever, is there any reason not to just leave it in there? Thanks,
w

Just yank it out. Who cares if it breaks. Its going into the trashbin anyway

Get ready for some nasty nasty water if you just rip it out... No matter how clean you think your gravel is its going to make a mess no matter what. I would wait and move the fish to a bucket later on while you switch it out. It won't hurt anything to wait.

I did the same and after cleaning it out with a siphone through the uplift tubes, I capped it off and left it. It is still there.

Thanks ya'll. I don't want to upset the mother to be, so I'm going to hold off on pulling the UGF for now. May do like ziggy2 said, and pull the uplifts, siphon out from under it, cap it and leave it in.
