what should be the pump flow capacity for a 500gal. tank with a wet/dry filter?

whats the tank stocked with? different setups require different flow rates. some people go 3x turnover an hour all the way to about 8x. the reefers go even higher. my 300 gal with 125 sump is going to turn over about 5-6 times an hour when i finish setting it up next week.

gotta agree with john... if it were me I'd probally go mag 36 unless head hight is a issue then I would go external lil giant etc....

Same here...More flow is better. Contact time dosn't really mater all that much in a wet dry system because the BB work quickly but never remove everything in one pass.

x2

more is better. I'm running nearly 4000gph on my 200. I would use 2 pumps with separate returns, each at 1500-2500gph. If one fails that way, you still have pretty good filtration.

2000 to 5000 gph, depends on load , more is better until there is too much current for your particular fish

.

OK THANKS! MAYBE ILL USE 2 MAGDRIVES 3600 GPH...maybe this is a dumb question, but what should be the exit flow in gph?
