Hi so i bought a used tank about 1.5 years ago now , its been running pretty okay , the pump finally gave out tough it was a a ehim proffesionel 3 or something and the pump thingy on the side that u push manually broke so now i cant really get it back starting , soooo the question is how fast do i need to replace the pump and which one should i get next for my 190g / 720 liter , also what is the avarage age for a bigger pump ish ? i heard anywhere from 5-15 years i currently have some medium sized frontosas in there about 3-5 inches x 10 and 3x dolphins thats it , thanks for help :)

I assume you are referring to a canister filter since you mentioned it was an 'Eheim Professional 3 or something' rather than an actual aquarium pump.

Do you have any other filtration on this tank at all? If not, a quick option is to use an air pump with sponge filters to provide at least some filtration and water movement PLUS to move the filter media from your broken canister filter into the aquarium in either mesh bags or pantyhose in a pinch so that you don't lose some of your beneficial bacteria.

There are a lot of brands of canister filters that should be good options for you, it just depends on whether some of them are available where you live AND how fast you can get them. Online purchases can be a good choice or locally if your LFS carries them though they may be more expensive but you can get them quicker.

I personally like the Eheim Classic series filter as I find they last many years. You could get 2 Eheim Classic 600 (formerly 2217) filters or splurge on the Classic 1500XL (formerly 2260).

Since you have a 190G aquarium, I highly recommend using 2 canister filters so you can alternate cleaning them and in case one filter breaks down, you will have another doing double duty.

The Fluval FX 5 or FX6 would also be a good option. I don't have any experience with other brands besides Eheim Classic or Fluval FX5.

Hi yes canister filter sry i was in a hurry and english isnt my first langauge ! :) , thanks for the answer ye, i have some air pumps in atm i might go for the eheims honestly i've heard alot of great stuff about the fx5/6's but also alot of bad stuff , like some extension pieces you might have to buy about once per month and i really dont wanna do that so probaly eheim ! , i dont have that much experience in pumps honestly ! all my tanks so far ( 1x 55g 1x 100g 1x 190g ) has either already had pumps or came with the purchase so :D im just worried of ''over pumping'' if that is even possible since i heard frontosas prefer a little less flow , but completely of topic sry apperanly frontosa females can repproduce on their own??!?!?!??! i saw this really wierd video from a guy that has like 369.000 subs on youtube , even tough that doesnt mean anything i get the impression that he wouldnt lie with that many followers since it wouldnt make any sense.. so frontosas seems pretty wierd.. , sadly i was just cleaning out the pump then restarting it when this happened so not sure if its even worth to bother putting the media in the water ? =/ sry for the long text

No problem on your 2nd language of English, I got the basics of what you were asking. ?

I'm not aware of any extension pieces you would need to buy with FX 5/6, I never needed to replace any parts when I was running mine.

You can't really over filter (over pumping) your tank but there could be too much water movement for some fish. That is easy to fix by directing the output flow from the filter by adjusting the nozzles or position in the aquarium.

I have never heard of female frontosa having fry (babies) on their own without a male in the tank. They will however produce eggs but they won't hatch. More than likely there was a male frontosa in the tank that wasn't identified as one.

Is the only thing wrong with your Eheim filter that the manual push to prime button on the top doesn't work? If so, you may still be able to use it by manually priming the filter by putting the filter back where it normally sets, opening any valves for the filter and then sucking on the output end of the hose. It should naturally fill with water and once the water reaches the rim of the aquarium and you can reinstall the spray bar or nozzle and then plug the mains cord back into the wall outlet.

If you post the actual model number of your filter, I might be able to help you further.

Yes please! i will post some pictures and watch some more guides of the filters tommorrow if thats ok , its pretty late here atm and im going to bed, i really really doubt that 1 night without a filter would be a issue for the fronts ? since i did a huge water change today aswell about 50%

Just get garden hose and pump water through the inlet until the canister and hoses fills up. Do it inside the tank so pressure builds up. Also, turn on the filter while doing it.

Sadly we actually tried that aswell , oh well my guess is that the pump is 10 + years , the owner passed away and his daughter who sold it barely knew the age of anything so its anyones guess , probaly gonna pick up a fluval fx6 tommorrow , even tough i heard some issues about fx6's parts im really excited since u can drain the fx6 before moving it meaning i can clean it by myself ( im a skinny boy :c ) , thanks alot for the tips but sadly the hose idea didnt work :/
