tank is a 300 gal, sump is 125 (6ft) pump is a sequence dart rated at 3600gph, probably more like 2200 gal after head loss. i would like to keep about 3ft in the center of the sump open for a place to keep fish that may need seperated or anything else that may pop up. i may load it up with hygrophillia or another fast growing stem plant as well. other than that how would you guys lay out the remaining 3ft? what media would you use?
thanx salty

I personally would save 4 feet of the sump, and use 2 ft. On the in hose, I would add a rough filter pad/filter sock, stock the sump with a top layer of finer grade filter floss and a bottom layer of pot scrubbies and lay the pump in the bottom, with a return line coming out according to your setup.
