Jebao dct leaking oil into aquarium. I have replaced the pump w. A backup and changed 90% of water. Water still oily. How do I remove oil from the water column
The oil is likely pooling at the surface. You need to skim the surface by sinking a container, like a plastic pitcher or bucket, evenly straight down just barely below the surface.
Allow the surface water / oil mix to pour into the container.
I often get a protein film down in my sump. I get rid of that by using sheets of absorbant kitchen roll. Lay a sheet down on the surface and then lift out. Repeat this a few times. I suspect it'll work on a surface film of oil too.
Well, after some intense grilling I finally got to the bottom of the issue. My baby cousin 3 years old dumped a bottle of lotion in my sump when I was not home. My otorongo was in really bad shape by the time i noticed the next morning. She hung on for 4 days but eventually croaked. I'm lucky the whole tank didn't get wiped out. Not sure why it was only her still tho. Tank is all cleared up now and the remaining 4 Ray's are doing well.
