i have a 300 gal tank up and running on an ehiem 2260 (just set up and cant afford the pump just yet for the sump) i have a 6ft 125 gal for the sump. i will be purchasing the pump soon and i am torn between the sequence dart and the sequence baracuda the dart should give me plenty of turnover (rated at 3600 gph i beleive) but the baracuda has the larger motor and higher head rating. the stand is 30in tall as is the tank let me know what you guys think. my thoughts were with the larger motor and higher head rating if i throttled it back with the valve pump should last longer as it wont be working as hard as the smaller pump nearly wide open

thanx salty

the pump will have to work harder if you restrict it and it will use more power...... running wide open all it has to do is move water but resticted it has to produce pressure and that takes power.

Think about a 10 speed bike..... you can go 5mph in 10th but it is hard to pedal but if you but the bike in 1st it is easy to pedal..... your still going 5mph but you have to work less and it's the same for the pump.... with a full flow the pump just spins free but if you restict it it has to overcome the restiction.

Hope it helps

i think you may have helped make my decision thanx
