This summer I am building a monster 29gal. The first step to my project is a sump. I know its not really needed but I had a spare 10gal and plexiglass so I went for it. Now I need a pump for it. I built a diy overflow out of 1/2in pvc pipe. If I am reading the sticky right I need a pump that pushes about 150gph.
First question is am I correct on the gph rating?
Next what is a inexpencive pump to get for this application and where can I get it?

Thanks in advance.

i would go bigger, buy an adjustable pump... or else buy a 200 gph, it also depends wich kind of flowbox you are going to build

I was thinking about a 200gph. I found a quiet one pump on pet solutions for 26 bucks.

I would go with a Quietone 1200. How high will your tank be from the pump? If its about 3-4 feet you should be getting from 200-250 GPH which would be fine. I would put a flow control valve on the outlet of the pump either way.

I had a 5g sump for my 20g long and my rio 1100 that pumps 300 gph was just enough. I also used 1/2 pvc pipes. I estimated how many feet it had to travel and got about 3 feet. I tried using a 250 gph pump first but it didnt work that why i went with the rio 1100. If you go to your lfs and look at the rio pumps they give you a graph on the back of their box showing you how much gph your pump will be pumping at X legnth.

The pump will be about 3 feet I would guess. I looked at the Quietone 1200 and that looks like it would do the trick. Thanks for the help everyone.
