I actually knocked it over, trying to get the ice off the water bell. I was in a hurry to get somewhere so I had to leave it there. I came back and the water in the pump box had frozen.

Here's my forecast. The pond is about 1,000 gallons, about 3 feet deep.

Think I can make it to Wednesday without my fish freezing?

just make sure you have a good size hole in the ice to keep from toxins building up

Alright, I'm going out there with a sledge now.

The Ice at the edge that has been frozen since Friday was only anb inch thick so I think I'll be ok.

Don't use a sledge...

It will make really loud noises under the ice that will spook the fish. Instead, boil large pots of water, the kinds used for pasta, and pour it in one area til you get a hole open.

How did the water freeze in the pump box? Was the pump not running?

Yeah, I figured that out after watching my fish freak out, I apologized and boiled some water.

The pump is just in a rubbermaid box for the winter, I drained my bog and brough all the plants into the pond and just put a water bell on my pump to keep a hole in the middle of the ice. The tuperware container floated to the top and I had to unplug the pump to keep it from pumping air.

The last few days would have been a great test, if I wouldn't have knocked the pump over.

Keep the pump in a container that can hold a few inches of water. The water will keep the diaphram from drying out and cracking, which could lead to the pump leaking oil into the pond in the spring.
