hi all im doing research for a new tank build and i am looking into pumps. the tank will be ruffly 300 gallons not including the sump. i am looking at trying to get 1500gph at 5 feet of head. inhabitants will be sa/sc cichlids. so i was looking and found this pump http://www.123ponds.com/pal2100.html that should do the job but i cant find any reviews on it

has anyone used this pump before or heard if it is any good?

are there any other good pumps that will deliver the water flow that i need?

pumps i have looked at are:

mag 24--$175--265 watts
quietone 6000--$140--135 watts-- 0nly 1200 gph but not a big deal
alpine cyclone 2100--$160--190 watts

thanks for any help

I don't have any experience with the pumps you listed, but have you considered buying two smaller pumps that would total 1,500GPH? The key advantage to doing this is if one pump fails, you have the other one still up and running. In some cases you can even increase efficiency by buying two smaller pumps versus one large pump and as an added bonus they are typically quieter.

In regards to the Alpine, I would look at the Laguna Max Flo's instead. The Laguna's appear to be more efficient. I don't have any first hand experience with Laguna's but I am considering buying a pair for my tank.
