I wanted to get some recommendations for a submersible pump (or 2 smaller pumps instead of 1 larger one) in a sump on a 125 gal with built in overflows (1" drain holes) rated at 600 gph each. Thanks.

I've had good luck with the Quiet One brand.

yeah quiet one series have a good reputation for their pumps...

The pondmasters have longer cords, other than that they are the same pump. I would recommend running the 2 mags, pump reduncancy is good with the cheaper pumps. Mags are reliable and last a long time, but the impellers are cheap and wear down so stock up on a few. If you opt for a single pump, a eheim 1262 is probably the best submersible pump, (except for the ultra high quality red dragons, but if you can afford those pumps you have too much money.) For externals I would look into iwakis or reeflos, but for your sized tank I would probably get a iwaki (Reeflo's have too much flow). Pick up a iwaki md 20 or 30rxlt, they're expensive but are the most durable of pumps. Personally for a sump I would only run 3-5x flow, so around 400-700 gph, any more and you'll just be wasting power. Sumps are mainly bio filters and therefore the lower flow rate is actually more beneficial, and the lower flow will make your system quieter.

2 quiet one 3000's.

I've also considered that, but it seems like more people have had problems with quiet ones than mag drives, but I think I've read a few places that mag drives are louder.

Do they make prefilters for quiet ones like what comes with the mag drives?

What is the difference between the Japanese motor Iwakis and the American motor Iwakis?
