PUMP ?

im trying to build a sump for a 40 gal setup. im not too sure what pump or how much gph pump it should be?

the more the marrier. i like to turn my water 5x more then the tank size. 10gal= 50GPH

so with your set up, i would go with a 200gph pump.

you can use a ball valve to control the current.

depends on the fish but not usually. my 90 gal has an xp3 and 2 ac 110's and everything in it is peachy.

To drop the flow rate you need to install a ball valve 150 mm beyond the pump discharge, This will allow you to choke the flow rate without damaging the pump. More discharge points will only increase turbulance in the tank

The more outlets the less change of a river tank. If you have 1 strong outlet, 3 outlets will make it less powerful. My quiet one 6000 has 1 outlet and is strong as hell. When I added 3 as a tryer thing it was a very weak output.
