so i was wondering if any one else realized that the FX5 pump uses 50 watts to push about 950gal/hour something like that but inline pumps for sale that move that much water use 2 time more power just wondering why that is.

A canister filter pump uses less power because the pump doesn't have to lift the water. Canisters being closed loops equalize the pressure between the intake and return lines. a canister filter pump that is 5 below the tank does have to lift any more water than a canister that is 1 ft below the tank. Where a canister filter does most of it's work is the resistance caused by the amount of water in the system and the media it has to travel through.

A sump pump on the other had is not a sealed system and the intake line can't equalize the pressure on the pump, therefore the pump has to do the additional work of lifting the water back to the level of the tank.
