Ok so after searching the forums here and asking google nicely I wasn't able to get solid answers.

The city water near me is not the greatest. I have a PUR faucet filter. They offer 2 types of filter cartridges for all their units. the 3-stage has a mystery mineral stage that adds "taste" and high pH. the 2-stage filter does not add any mystery minerals and is just a basic carbon filter. I haven't been able to get a solid answer on how good the filter really is. some sources say 2 micron and the info packet that comes in the box gives a long list of what it removes but does not give a solid rating on anything.

Would using the 2-stage filter be a good idea for a first fill on a freshwater tank? I just want to start out as good as i can. many questions I still have about.... Everything...

Carbon filter is a good idea, but those Pur faucet filters break very easily, the threads are cheap plastic. If you move it at all it's done for. I broke one, got another several years later, and was extremley cautious and broke it also. If it's still in the package, take it back and get a pitcher filter.
